Alonetogether: When the Vibe Matters Most
A cozy Sukhumvit hideaway that nails the atmosphere, even when the drinks need a moment to find themselves
Some bars succeed by creating a space so inviting that you’re willing to overlook the occasional stumble. Alonetogether on Sukhumvit 31 fits this description perfectly—a narrow, intimate cocktail bar where live jazz and classic drinks come together in a setting that feels genuinely special, even when execution doesn’t quite match ambition.
Walk into this small space and you immediately understand the appeal. It’s the kind of classic cocktail bar that seats maybe a dozen people comfortably, with couches and sofas arranged near the band for those who want the full jazz experience. The lighting is warm, the vibe is relaxed, and there’s something undeniably romantic about the whole setup.
It’s not trying to reinvent the cocktail bar—it’s just doing the classic version with genuine care for atmosphere.

When Atmosphere Does the Heavy Lifting
The live jazz band plays every day, and here’s what makes it work: they’ve found that sweet spot where the music enhances rather than dominates. Probably acoustic with minimal amplification, which means you can actually have a conversation without shouting across the bar. The music is pleasant enough to listen to actively if you want, but it doesn’t demand your attention if you’re focused on the person you’re with.
On a Sunday evening around 8-9pm, the place had that perfect energy—busy enough to feel alive, intimate enough that you’re not fighting for the bartender’s attention. If you’re coming with more than two people or want those coveted seats in front of the band, book ahead. For couples or solo visits, you can probably walk in and find a spot.
The narrow bar layout creates natural intimacy. You’re close to other patrons, close to the bartenders, close to the music. It’s cozy in the best sense—the kind of space that makes a regular Tuesday feel like an occasion.

Cocktails That Need Time to Settle
Here’s where things get interesting. Alonetogether’s menu covers impressive ground—from sweet and sour drinks to martinis to spirit-forward classics, with signature twists scattered throughout. The ambition is clear, and sometimes they pull it off beautifully.

The “Dusk&Dawn Vieux Carré” shows what they can do when everything clicks. Taking the classic Vieux Carré and adding chamomile and sunflower seed notes transforms it into something more floral and less sweet than the original. The balance between sweetness and fragrance actually works—it’s a drink that respects its foundation while creating something distinctly its own.

Their “Long Island Thai Tea” delivers exactly what the name promises: a classic Long Island Iced Tea with a honey-like fragrance that sets it apart without abandoning what makes the original work. It looks like a Long Island, tastes like one, but has that extra dimension that justifies calling it a signature.

But here’s the pattern I noticed: most drinks arrive tasting somewhat off-balance on first sip, then gradually settle into something more reasonable after sitting for a bit. The Caipirinha started too flat and diluted—probably from excess flaky ice—though it developed a sour, dry profile with an interesting rounded aftertaste. The Old Pal tasted purely of Campari initially, only revealing its rye whiskey character after some time.

The “Mocha Martini”—made with house-made coffee liqueur instead of Kahlúa—never quite found its footing. It tasted more like flat cold brew than a proper espresso martini variation, missing the richness and complexity you’d expect from the concept.
The Execution Question
Here’s what gave me pause: overhearing bartenders quietly asking each other “what is the recipe for this?” while making classic cocktails. Not signatures—classics. The kind of drinks that should be muscle memory for anyone working in a serious cocktail bar.
The team is friendly and helpful when you need them, meeting the standard you’d expect from bars in this price range. But there’s a difference between pleasant service and confident execution, and Alonetogether occasionally shows that gap.
At 420 baht average (with some spirit-forward options pushing toward 600), you’re paying for professional-level cocktails. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you get drinks that need a few minutes to become what they should have been from the start.
One small detail: the automatic cheese popcorn bar snacks (standard in Bangkok) can interfere with tasting subtle cocktail flavors. It’s a minor point, but worth noting at this price level.
What This Place Actually Delivers
Alonetogether excels at creating an experience. The jazz, the intimate setting, the warm lighting, the romantic vibe—all of this works beautifully. If you’re looking for a place to bring someone special, to have meaningful conversation over drinks while live music plays in the background, this delivers completely.
What it doesn’t consistently deliver is cocktails that justify their price point through execution alone. The recipes show ambition and creativity, the ingredients seem solid, but the technique wavers enough to be noticeable.
The key is knowing what you’re coming for. Come for the atmosphere and the experience, and the drinks will probably be good enough to complement that. Come specifically for impressive cocktails, and you might leave wondering if there are better options at the same price.
When I think about recommending Alonetogether, the context matters. For a date? Absolutely. For celebrating something special in an intimate setting? Yes. For serious cocktail exploration? There are probably better choices in Bangkok for the same investment.
